Integration 101

Thinking about integrating other systems with your Salesforce environment? It's an investment that boosts efficiency, saves time, and optimizes resources. Let us show you how we can make it seamless and impactful!

Integration Basics

Investing in Salesforce integrations is a wise move.  This is the practice of bringing two or more systems together to drive unification of data and business processes.  This occurs:

Synchronously - call and response must complete for processing to continue.

Asynchronously - further processing is not dependent on completion of call and response.  Best used where long processing times are expected.

Why Integrate?

Resources are costly and when a resource has to swivel-chair, there is inherent inefficiencies and the introduction of human error.  Additionally, markets demand speed, and integrations allow us to build the most effective systems possible using industry standards and best practices.

3

Salesforce API

API stands for Application Programming Interface.  This is the way two systems communicate.  We accomplish this using REST API, SOAP API, Bulk API, Streaming API, Outbound Message (SOAP), Web Service Callouts, Salesforce Connect, and Heroku Connect.

4a

Integration Type:  Point to Point Integration

This is knows as the 1:1 integration model.  Not only is it the most costly and inefficient, but it is the most common.  An integration is needed for each application.  We prefer Hub and Spoke or Service Bus if possible (See below).

4b

Integration Type: Hub and Spoke

A centralized hub that acts as the controller of all integrations.  This hub routes traffic and allows for you to set up 1 integration per application.

4c

Integration Type:  Service Bus

This is the advanced version of Hub and Spoke.  The integration engine is used to create connections between software applications and systems.  This is the preferred method of integration, especially if you need routing, orchestration, transformation, and security.
